Nithsdale (Srath Nid in Scottish Gaelic), also known by its anglicised gaelic name Strathnith or Stranit, is the valley of the River Nith in Scotland, and the name of the region.
The River Nith is known for its salmon, which run early in the year if the weather is favorable. Sea trout also run early and are plentiful from May onwards. Grayling are abundant in the winter months.
