Signed in pencil. Comstock wrote, "This is the best of these three states"(p. 68). $2,250.
The Ford. is the first of a series of imaginary scenes. Griggs described it as 'An imaginary English town before Reformation & the Renaissance had visible effect.'
The subject is the central part of The Pool, Comstock 10, with alterations and additions.
This scene, though wholly original, may perhaps owe something of its general character to memories of survivals at Campden and Winchecombe, in Goucestershire, and bear suggestions of a love of East Anglia" (p. 69).
