For over 600 years pack horses from the Ashby area brought coal, possibly over the Anstey pack horse bridge, to Leicester, crossing the Soar at Aylestone and then into Leicester to be sold at Berehill (present site of the Clock Tower).At one time one shilling a ton.
Austin signed his engraved plates with his initials RSA in honour of the old master engravers who often signed their plates with a monogram. He used his full name for his etched plates.
