Called by Spaniards Pulchra Leonina (for the purity of forms) or Catedral de Santa Maria (its official name), it is a very Gothic church built in typical French primitive Gothic style of the 12th century that influenced Spanish style in the 13-14th centuries. Léon lies on pilgrimage route, Camino de Santiago (Road to Santiago). Pilgrims are seated in the foreground of this drypoint. The lacy light stone spires of the cathedral, visible from afar, are the focal point of this composition.
