A rich, tonally mysterious impression printed on chine applied to cream wove paper. Proof aside from the published edition issued in Aus Worpswede. Signed and titled in pencil. $1,250.
Vogeler was a German painter, designer, and architect. Born in Bremen, he studied at the a Düsseldorf Akademie from 1890–95. His artistic studies during this period included visits to Belgium and Italy. After graduating, he moved to an artist colony in to Worpswede, north of Bremen. The colony depicted an idealized view of life at oneness with nature. He learned etching there from Hans am Ende. Vogeler's most important work as a printmaker was done there from 1894 to 1902. Dornrõschen his his most beautiful symbolic etching on the theme of love.
