Hardie writes, page 56: "Low tide at Whitstable; 'The Street,' a 'hard' [natural shoal] of rocks and stones showing only at low tide, zig-zags out to sea; shrimpers on the right; bathing machines in foreground. Whitstable is a seaside town in north Kent in south-east England.
