Maria Hampshire Eaton was born in England in 1864 and later immigrated to Canada in the early 1880's. She became an established artist while living in Montreal and began exhibiting at the Art Association of Montreal in 1889. She became especially known for her small watercolours and is listed in The Early Painters of Canada by Russell Harper.
