Annotated in pencil by the artist, "To, Eugene A. Noble. I agree with you that an artist should follow his work to the bitter end and so I hope to do. Have patience." Annotated by a different hand, probably Eugene A. Noble, "E.A. N." "Old French Market LA" "This is the first print from the first plate by E.H. Suydam. $950.

Graphic artist, painter and illustrator, Edward Howard Suydam studied under Thornton Oakley at the School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia. He was a full member of the Philadelphia Print Club, the Philadelphia Society of Applied Arts and the Philadelphia Alliance. Frequently commissioned as a commercial artist, he produced many illustrations for Harper's, Designer and The Delineator.
